Otrivin is used to clean nasal passages caused by allergies, hay fever, the common cold, and sinus irritation. Store at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Take Otrivin exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor, or use the instructions provided on the label. When applying the nasal spray keep your head upright. Spray and inhale in each nostril. When using the drops lie down on a bed on your back and have your head hang over the edge. Insert the drops and stay in this position for 10 minutes. Slowly turn your head to either side. Do not allow the drop containers application tip to touch any surface of your nose. Do not share this medication with others. Throw away the container after it is empty. The bottle should not be reused. Only use this medication 3 times per day at maximum. Do not use Otrivin for more than 5 days as long-term use can damage your nasal tissue and cause chronic congestion. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine. If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor in the past 14 days do not take Otrivin as it could cause serious side effects. Inform your doctor prior to using this medication if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, hardened arteries, irregular heartbeats, thyroid difficulties, diabetes, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, difficulty urinating, or liver or kidney disease. An overdose of this medication may be harmful. Severe: Allergic reaction, seizures, hallucinations, erratic or quickened heartbeat. Common: Slight stinging, mild dryness and irritation, sneezing. Other: None.
