Buscopan (Hyoscine)

Do's

• Take two tablets four times a day for adults and children over 12 years. 
• Start with a lower dose of one tablet three times a day for irritable bowel syndrome, which may be increased if necessary. 
• Take one tablet three times a day for children aged 6 - 12 years. 
• Take Buscopan with water and swallow the tablets whole without breaking, crushing, or chewing them. 
• Talk to a healthcare provider or go to a hospital immediately if you accidentally take more Buscopan than you should, even if there are no tablets left. 
• Take the missed dose of this medication as soon as you remember. If it's close to your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.  
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the dosage and administration of Buscopan. 

Don’ts

• Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. 
• Don't give Buscopan Tablets to children under 6 years of age. 

The dosage and administration of Buscopan may vary depending on the age and condition of the patient 

Common Side Effects:

• Dry mouth
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Feeling hot and decreased sweating
• Increased heart rate
• Difficulty passing urine

Severe side effects due to Buscopan are rare. However, seek medical advice if you experience severe or persistent symptoms.

Not everyone may experience these side effects, and the occurrence of side effects can vary from person to person. If you experience any symptoms that you think may be due to Buscopan, speak with your healthcare provider for further advice. 

Do not take Buscopan if you are allergic to hyoscine butylbromide or any of the ingredients listed in the product information leaflet. Allergic reactions may include symptoms such as shortness of breath, swelling of the face, rash, itching, or hives on the skin.

Discuss with your healthcare provider if you have medical histories such as kidney disease, stomach ulcers, lung disease, or abdominal pain before using Buscopan.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult with your healthcare provider regarding precautions, appropriate dosage, or possible alternatives.
