Salofalk is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It is used to control the symptoms of acute episodes and maintain remission of these conditions.

Do’s

  • The dosage of Salofalk will be determined by your healthcare provider based on factors such as the type and severity of your condition, as well as your body weight. Your healthcare provider will provide you with the appropriate dosage instructions for your specific situation.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
  • Take the tablets at the same time each day. This will help you remember when to take the medication.
  • The tablets should be taken at least one hour before a meal, without chewing or crushing them.
  • If you forget to take a dose of Salofalk at the usual time, simply skip that dose completely. Take your next dose at the normal time it is due. If you are unsure about what to do, consult your healthcare provider.
  • If you believe you have used too much Salofalk, seek urgent medical attention.

Salofalk should not be used in patients with impaired renal function. If renal function deteriorates during treatment, Salofalk should be discontinued immediately.

Serious blood dyscrasias have been reported very rarely with mesalazine (the active ingredient in Salofalk). If you experience unexplained hemorrhages, bruises, purpura, anemia, fever, or pharyngolaryngeal pain, Salofalk should be discontinued and medical attention should be sought.

Salofalk may cause serious skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). If you develop blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, chest pain, chills, cough, itching, joint or muscle pain, painful or difficult urination, red irritated eyes, red skin lesions, sore throat, or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

Salofalk may interact with certain medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
