Imdur (Isosorbide mononitrate) is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in patients with a certain heart condition (coronary artery disease).

Imdur belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. Imdur contains the medication isosorbide mononitrate, a type of nitrate medication. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart.

This medication will not relieve chest pain once it occurs. Also, it is not intended to be taken just before physical activities (such as exercise or sexual intercourse) to prevent chest pain.

Do's

  • Take Imdur by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily when you wake up.
  • Swallow this medication whole with a half glass of water (4 ounces/120 milliliters).
  • Always take Imdur exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily in the morning.
  • Take Imdur regularly at the same time each day for optimal benefits.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if you experience increased or worsening chest pain, as Imdur's effectiveness might decrease over time, requiring dosage adjustments.

Don'ts

  • Do not crush, chew, or split the tablets unless they have a score line, and your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. This ensures that the medication is released slowly throughout the day.
  • Do not stop taking Imdur without consulting your healthcare provider, as this can worsen your condition. Your healthcare provider will advise on proper tapering if needed.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Imdur,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.
