Ciprodex is a prescription medication indicated for the treatment of bacterial ear infections in the middle and outer ear, commonly known as swimmer's ear. It is a combination ear drop medication that contains two active ingredients: ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a steroid. Ciprodex works by killing the bacteria causing the infection and reducing inflammation in the ear. Ciprodex should only be used as prescribed by a healthcare professional and for the specific condition it was prescribed for. It should not be used for other conditions or given to other people, even if they have similar symptoms.

Do's

  • Use Ciprodex only as directed by your healthcare provider, typically twice daily (every 12 hours).
  • Ensure the ear canal is clean and dry before using the drops.
  • Have someone else apply the drops, if possible, for better accuracy and to avoid touching the ear.
  • Hold the bottle in your hand for a few minutes to warm it and reduce the risk of dizziness.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the medication.
  • Shake the container well before each use.
  • Use Ciprodex regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.
  • Continue using the medication for the full-time prescribed, even if symptoms improve. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or worsens after seven days of treatment or if you notice any fluid in the ear after treatment.

 Don'ts

  • Do not use Ciprodex in the eyes.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip with anything, including your ear or other surfaces.
