Glyxambi (Empagliflozin/Linagliptin)

Do’s

• Before starting Glyxambi, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist and consult your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
• Take Glyxambi by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily in the morning. The dosage is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• Use Glyxambi regularly to obtain the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember to use it consistently.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens, such as if your blood sugar is too high or too low. Regular communication with your healthcare provider and monitoring of your condition is essential for effective management of diabetes.

• Dehydration
• Urinary Tract Infections
• Low Blood Pressure
• Weight loss
• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
• Gastrointestinal issues

Be aware of any unusual symptoms and report them to your healthcare provider.

Glyxambi may interact with other drugs, and a healthcare provider should be consulted before taking any drug, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.

Glyxambi is specifically for adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and is not for treating Type 1 diabetes.

Before initiating Glyxambi and as clinically indicated, renal function should be assessed. It is not recommended for use in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 30 mL/min/1.73 m² and is contraindicated in patients on dialysis.

In patients with volume depletion, this condition should be corrected before initiating Glyxambi.

Glyxambi may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in certain patients, and it has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis. It is unknown whether patients with a history of pancreatitis are at an increased risk for the development of pancreatitis while using Glyxambi.

There are additional factors to consider, such as hypersensitivity to the medication, coadministration with insulin secretagogues or insulin, and the need to withhold Glyxambi for at least 3 days prior to major surgery or procedures associated with prolonged fasting.
