Ludiomil is a medication used to treat various types of depression and related anxiety. It may help improve mood and feelings of well-being.

It belongs to a class of medications called tetracyclic antidepressants and it works by affecting the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. 

Do’s

  • Take Ludiomil Coated Tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.
  • Take it with or without food, depending on your healthcare provider's instructions.
  • Be aware that it may take several weeks to feel the full effects of the medication.
  • Take Ludiomil consistently, even if you feel well. Don't stop taking it without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Tell your healthcare provider about all other medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you take, as they may interact with Ludiomil.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • Tell your healthcare provider if you experience any side effects that bother you.

Don'ts

  • Don't take more Ludiomil than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Don't crush, chew, or break the tablets.
  • Don't drink alcohol while taking Ludiomil, as it can increase side effects.
  • Don't operate machinery or drive until you know how Ludiomil affects you.
  • Don't abruptly stop taking Ludiomil, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms.

Common Side Effects:

  • Heartburn that doesn't go away
  • Mental/mood changes (such as anxiety, agitation, confusion)
  • Shaking
  • Severe stomach/abdominal pain

Serious Side Effects:

  • Severe dizziness
  • Fast/irregular heartbeat
  • Fainting
  • Seizures
  • Eye pain/swelling/redness
  • Widened pupils
  • Vision changes (such as seeing rainbows around lights at night)
  • Rare but serious allergic reactions, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing
  • QT prolongation, which can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting)

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to amitriptyline or any of its ingredients.

Discuss any pre-existing conditions with your healthcare provider before taking Ludiomil, especially:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Seizures
  • Heart problems (such as heart rhythm problems, recent heart attack)
  • Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Difficulty urinating (due to enlarged prostate)
  • Personal or family history of substance use disorder

Ludiomil may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you are sure you can do them safely. Limit alcohol consumption while taking Ludiomil as it can worsen these effects.

Ludiomil, especially at the beginning of treatment, may increase suicidal thoughts and tendencies in some people, particularly young adults. If you experience worsening mood, suicidal thoughts, or unusual changes in behavior, seek medical help immediately.

Ludiomil may increase the risk of seizures in some people. Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of seizures.

Tell your healthcare provider if you are undergoing or plan to undergo ECT while taking Ludiomil.

Ludiomil can sometimes trigger manic episodes in people with bipolar disorder. Be aware of this possibility and discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Stopping Ludiomil abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, headache, sleep problems, and irritability. Talk to your healthcare provider about tapering the dose gradually when stopping this medication.

Older adults may be more susceptible to side effects of Ludiomil, especially dizziness and confusion.

Ludiomil should only be used during pregnancy when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. 

It is unknown if Ludiomil passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while taking Ludiomil.
