Micardis (telmisartan) is a prescription medication used to treat  high blood pressure (hypertension). Telmisartan helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Micardis works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering blood pressure. This can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

In patients aged 55 or older who are at high risk of developing cardiovascular events (such as heart attack or stroke) and are unable to take angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, Micardis can help reduce the risk of these events.

Do:

  • Take Micardis exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
  • Take it with or without food, whichever your healthcare provider recommends.
  • Take it consistently at the same time each day to avoid missed doses.
  • Continue taking Micardis even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after starting Micardis.

Don't:

  • Do not adjust your dosage or stop taking Micardis without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Do not take Micardis more often than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Do not use expired Micardis.
  • Do not share your Micardis medication with others

It may take up to 4 weeks for Micardis to reach its full effect in controlling your blood pressure. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking before starting Micardis.
