Isoptin SR is indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris. Isoptin SR is also used for the treatment of other conditions, including:

  • Angina of effort
  • Angina at rest
  • Vasospastic angina (including Prinzmetal's variant angina)
  • Tachyarrhythmias, including paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia
  • Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response
  • Atrial flutter with rapid ventricular response

Do’s

  • The dosage of Isoptin SR is determined by your medical condition and individual response to treatment. Follow the prescribed dosage given by your healthcare provider.
  • Isoptin SR should be taken by mouth with food, as directed by your healthcare provider. It is typically taken once daily in the morning or every 12 hours.
  • Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.
  • Take Isoptin SR regularly at the same time(s) each day to derive the maximum benefit from the medication.
  • Even if you feel well, continue taking this medication as prescribed. It is common for individuals with high blood pressure to not feel sick.
  • It may take up to a week for Isoptin SR to provide its full benefit in treating high blood pressure. If you do not notice any improvement in your condition or if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Do not crush or chew the tablets. This can cause the entire dose to be released at once, increasing the risk of side effects. If splitting the tablets is necessary, consult your pharmacist for guidance.
  • Do not stop taking Isoptin SR without consulting your healthcare provider. Suddenly stopping the medication can worsen certain conditions. If your healthcare provider decides to discontinue the medication, they may gradually decrease your dose.

Common Side Effects:

  • Sinus bradycardia (slow heart rate)
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Second-degree atrioventricular block

Other possible side effects may occur but are less common. Seek medical attention if you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Isoptin SR.

Consult with your healthcare provider for more information about the potential side effects of Isoptin SR and to discuss any concerns you may have.

Do not use Isoptin SR if you have a serious heart condition such as "sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block" (unless you have a pacemaker), severe heart failure, slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint, or certain heart rhythm disorders of the atrium (the upper chambers of the heart that allow blood to flow into the heart).

Isoptin SR may interact with other drugs you are taking. Consult with a healthcare provider to determine potential interactions.

The safety of Isoptin SR during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Consult with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Isoptin SR may have specific warnings related to heart failure, hypotension (low blood pressure), elevated liver enzymes, A-V block, and rapid ventricular response. Read the product information leaflet and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.

Consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and to discuss any specific warnings or precautions related to your medical condition and other medications you may be taking.
