Mavik (Trandolapril)

Do’s

• Take Mavik exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once or twice daily, with or without food.
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding dosage. They may start you low and gradually increase the dose to minimize side effects.
• Take Mavik consistently, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.
• Be patient with treatment. It may take a week for full blood pressure control and weeks or months for heart failure benefits.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens, such as persistently high blood pressure readings.

Don'ts

• Don't adjust your dosage without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't stop taking Mavik abruptly, even if you feel better.

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness, or tiredness as the body adjusts to the medication
• Dry cough
• Abdominal pain
• Persistent dry cough
• Diarrhea
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Loss of appetite
• Nasal stuffiness
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Sexual dysfunction
• Abnormal liver tests

Serious Side Effects:

• Muscle weakness
• Slow/irregular heartbeat
• Fainting
• Nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop
• Loss of appetite
• Stomach/abdominal pain
• Very serious reaction if receiving injections for bee/wasp sting allergy (desensitization) and also taking trandolapril
• Mavik is secreted in breast milk and is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Mavik,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to trandolapril, other ACE inhibitors, or any ingredients in Mavik.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Mavik, especially:

• History of allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
• Having blood filtering procedures (LDL apheresis, dialysis)
• High blood potassium
• Liver disease

Mavik may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you are sure you can do them safely. Limit alcohol and marijuana use while taking Mavik.

Severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can increase dehydration risk and make you feel lightheaded. Inform your healthcare provider if you experience these and drink plenty of fluids unless advised otherwise.

Mavik may increase your potassium levels. Consult your healthcare provider before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Mavik, before having surgery.

Older adults may be more susceptible to side effects like dizziness and high potassium levels.

Mavik can harm an unborn baby. Do not use it if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Discuss birth control methods with your healthcare provider while using Mavik. If you become pregnant, talk to your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits immediately.

It is unknown if Mavik passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
