Jalyn is a medication used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It is a combination of dutasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, and tamsulosin, an alpha-adrenergic antagonist, and it works by reducing the size of an enlarged prostate and relaxing the muscles in the bladder.

  • If available from your pharmacist, read the Patient Information Leaflet before you start taking Jalyn and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
  • Take this medication by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily, 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow the medication whole.
  • Take this medication regularly to derive the greatest benefit from it. Establish a routine by taking it at the same time each day to aid in remembering.
  • It may take up to 4 weeks to observe an improvement in symptoms. If your symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks or if they worsen, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Refrain from crushing, chewing, or opening the capsules.

The risk is higher when initiating this drug or when restarting treatment after a prior cessation. During these times, avoid circumstances where you may be at risk of injury if you experience fainting.

Patients starting treatment with Jalyn should be cautious to avoid situations where injury could result should syncope occur, such as driving, operating machinery, or performing hazardous tasks. Patients should be advised to sit or lie down at the first signs of orthostatic hypotension.
