Topicort Cream (Desoximetasone)

Do’s

• Use this medication only on the skin. 
• Wash and dry your hands before applying the medication. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
• Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub it in as directed by your healthcare provider. This is usually done twice daily.
• After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands.
• If the medication does come into contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with plenty of water.
• Use this medication only for the condition prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or gets worse.

Don’ts

• Do not use this medication on the face, groin, or underarms unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the treated area unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• When applying the medication near the eyes, nose, or mouth, avoid getting it in these areas as it may worsen or cause glaucoma. 
• Do not use this medication for longer than prescribed.

• Thinning of the skin 
• Easy bruising
• Changes in body fat distribution, especially in the face, neck, back, and waist
• Increased acne or facial hair growth while using Topicort Cream
• Menstrual problems
• Sexual dysfunction
• Adrenal suppression
• Skin irritation
• Burning, itching, dryness, and redness at the application site

Not everyone will experience these side effects, and the severity and frequency of side effects may vary from person to person. If you have any concerns about the side effects of Topicort Cream, consult with your healthcare provider.

Dose selection for elderly patients should be cautious, usually starting at the low end of the dosing range. This is because elderly individuals may have a greater frequency of decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function, as well as concomitant diseases or other drug therapies.

To minimize potential exposure to the breastfed infant via breast milk, use Topicort Cream on the smallest area of skin and for the shortest duration possible while breastfeeding. Do not apply Topicort Cream directly to the nipple and areola to avoid direct infant exposure.

Topicort Cream can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects. This is more likely to occur with high doses or prolonged use, especially when the cream is covered with a non-breathable bandage.

Topicort Cream may interact with other drugs. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.

If you are allergic to Topicort Cream or any of its components, inform your healthcare provider. Allergic reactions may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

The use of Topicort Cream in children should be determined by a healthcare provider. The benefits and risks of using the medication should be carefully evaluated.
