Vyloma cream is primarily used to treat specific types of skin growth. These include precancerous growths known as actinic keratoses, a type of skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma, and warts on the outside of the genitals/anus.

Treating these conditions with Vyloma cream can decrease complications associated with them, such as the progression of precancerous growths or the spread of warts

The active ingredient in Vyloma cream is imiquimod, which belongs to a group of drugs called immune response modifiers. Imiquimod is believed to work by helping to activate the immune system, enabling it to fight against these abnormal skin growths.

Do’s

  • Before using imiquimod, read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your healthcare provider. Ask your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
  • Apply imiquimod only to the affected skin area(s) as directed by your healthcare provider, typically before bedtime.
  • Wash your hands and the treatment area with mild soap and water before applying the medication. Dry thoroughly.
  • Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area(s) and rub it in as directed. Wash your hands again after application.
  • Leave the cream on overnight (usually 6-10 hours for warts, 8 hours for other conditions). Avoid showering or bathing during this time.
  • Wash the treated area with soap and water in the morning to remove the cream.
  • Use imiquimod regularly for the prescribed duration. Consider marking your calendar for reminders.

Don'ts

  • Avoid applying imiquimod to eyes, nose, mouth, rectum, or vagina. Rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
  • Don't use bandages or waterproof dressings on the treated area (cotton gauze or underwear for genitals is okay).
  • Don't leave the cream on for longer than prescribed.
  • Don't adjust the dosage or application frequency without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Don't ignore the worsening condition. Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens, doesn't improve, or if new growths appear during treatment.

Common side effects of imiquimod cream:

  • Skin redness
  • Swelling
  • Scaling
  • Flaking
  • Crusting
  • Itching
  • Burning

Serious side effects of imiquimod cream are uncommon, but can include:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, trouble breathing, swelling of the face/tongue/throat)
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Muscle aches
  • Joint pain

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Vyloma cream, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider about any allergies you have, especially to Vyloma Cream or any of its inactive ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider about your medical history, particularly:

  • Recent surgery on the area to be treated
  • Weakened immune system (including HIV infection)
  • Chronic graft-versus-host disease
  • Autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus)

Vyloma Cream may increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure, wear sunscreen, and use protective clothing outdoors.

Vyloma Cream treats warts caused by HPV, but it doesn't eliminate the virus. New warts may develop during treatment, and HPV can be spread through skin-to-skin contact.

To reduce the risk of spreading HPV:

  • Use effective barrier protection ( condoms, dental dams) during all sexual activity.
  • Avoid sexual contact while the cream is on the skin (genital/anal warts).
  • Be aware that condoms, dental dams, and diaphragms may be weakened by the cream, potentially reducing their effectiveness in preventing pregnancy or spreading HPV/HIV.

Vyloma Cream should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if Vyloma Cream passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
