Eurax cream, containing crotamiton, is used to treat scabies, a skin infection caused by mites that burrow into the skin. This condition leads to severe itching and the development of small bumps or blisters filled with fluid or pus.

Crotamiton works by killing the mites that cause scabies and helps relieve itching related to scabies and other skin conditions. It belongs to two classes of drugs: scabicides and antipruritics.

Do’s

  • Use Eurax cream only on your skin. Never swallow it.
  • Shake the lotion well before use (if applicable).
  • Take a bath or shower and dry thoroughly before applying for scabies treatment.
  • Apply a thin layer of cream to all areas from chin to toes, including skin folds, between fingers and toes, and soles of feet.
  • Trim fingernails and apply medication underneath them. You can use a separate toothbrush for this.
  • Reapply the medication after 24 hours for scabies.
  • Wash clothes, towels, and bedding in hot water (or dry clean) to kill mites.
  • Take a bath 48 hours after the last application to remove the medication.
  • Apply a thin layer and massage it gently for other itching skin conditions (as directed by your healthcare provider).

Don'ts

  • Don't apply Eurax cream to your face, eyes, mouth, vagina, or broken skin.
  • Don't reuse the toothbrush used for applying under nails. Dispose of it properly after use.
  • Don't wash clothes, towels, and bedding in anything other than hot water (or dry clean) for scabies treatment.
  • Don't leave the medication on your skin for longer than directed.

Common Side Effects:

  • Worsening skin irritation, such as itching and redness, may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, stop using the medication and consult a healthcare provider promptly.

Serious Side Effects:

  • Serious side effects of Eurax are not likely to occur. However, if unusual itching, redness, swelling, burning, or a rash occurs after using Eurax, medical attention should be sought.
  • In rare cases, a very serious allergic reaction to Eurax may occur. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. Immediate medical attention should be sought if these symptoms are experienced.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Eurax cream,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

If you have allergies to crotamiton or any other ingredients in the Eurax cream.
