Loceryl Nail Lacquer is a medication used to treat fungal infections of the nails.

The active ingredient, amorolfine, inhibits ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cytoplasmic membranes, leading to the depletion of ergosterol and the accumulation of non-typical spherical sterols in the membranes.

This disruption of the fungal cell membrane ultimately kills the fungal pathogens that cause nail fungus.

Do’s

  • Before the first application, use the provided nail file to thin down the infected nail surface as much as possible. Dispose of the used file after each use to prevent spreading the infection.
  • Clean the affected nail surface with an alcohol swab provided in the kit to remove dirt and oils. Let the nail dry completely.
  • Dip the applicator included in the kit into the Loceryl bottle. Apply a thin layer of lacquer evenly over the entire surface of the infected nail, including the underside of the nail tip if possible. Don't wipe excess lacquer on the bottle's rim.
  • Apply Loceryl once or twice weekly as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Allow the lacquer to dry completely for at least 3-5 minutes before putting on socks or shoes.

Don'ts

  • Don't skip filing or cleaning: Always prepare the nail with filing and cleaning before applying Loceryl for better penetration.
  • Don't over-file: Be careful not to file too aggressively to avoid damaging the healthy nail area.
  • Don't use it on healthy nails: Apply Loceryl only to the infected nails, not healthy ones.
  • Don't apply cosmetics: Avoid using regular nail polish, artificial nails, or occlusive dressings while using Loceryl.
  • Don't touch the treated nail: Avoid touching or picking at the treated nail after application.
  • Don't stop treatment early: Continue using Loceryl for the full duration prescribed by your healthcare provider, even if your nails appear improved. Fungal nail infections take a long time to clear completely.

Common side effects:

  • Blisters on the skin
  • Nail disorders, such as nail damage and discoloration
  • Skin irritation
  • Skin rash
  • Redness of the skin (erythema)

Serious side effects:

  • Systemic allergic reaction: This is a serious allergic reaction that can be associated with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, and/or a severe skin rash

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Loceryl nail lacquer,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Loceryl can cause allergic reactions, although most are mild. If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, stop using the product immediately and consult your healthcare provider.

Loceryl may not be effective for severe fungal infections involving the lunula (the white crescent-shaped area at the base of the nail).

Avoid using Loceryl on artificial nails or healthy nails that are not infected.

Do not use the same nail file for infected and healthy nails, as this can spread the infection.

Loceryl should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless deemed absolutely necessary by your healthcare provider.

If you work with organic solvents, wear impermeable gloves to prevent Loceryl from being removed from your nails.

Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mucous membranes.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have any pre-existing skin conditions around the nails.
