Isopto Atropine Eye Drops (Atropine Sulfate Eye Drops)

Do’s

• Use this medication in the affected eye(s) as directed by your healthcare provider. The dosage may vary depending on the specific condition being treated. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the number of drops and frequency of use. Typically, the recommended dosage is 2 to 4 times daily.
• Before applying the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid contamination. 
• If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the eye drops. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting your contact lenses back in.
• Tilt your head back slightly and look upward. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket or pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch. 
• Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. Then, use your finger to apply gentle pressure at the corner of your eye near the nose for 2 to 3 minutes. This helps prevent the medication from draining out and ensures proper absorption.
• If directed by your healthcare provider or if your dose is more than one drop, repeat the same steps for the other eye.
• Replace the dropper cap tightly after each use.
• If you are using other eye medications, such as drops or ointments, wait at least 5-10 minutes before applying them. Use the eye drops before the eye ointments to allow the drops to enter the eye effectively.
• Wait several minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery, as Isopto Atropine Eye Drops may cause temporary blurred vision or sensitivity to light.
• To get the most benefit from Isopto Atropine Eye Drops, use them regularly at the same times each day.
• Continue using the medication for the full time prescribed, even if your symptoms improve.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Don’ts

• Do not touch the dropper tip or let it come into contact with your eye or any other surface.
• Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes immediately after application.
• Do not rinse the dropper. 
• Do not use the solution if it turns brown or cloudy or contains particles. 
• Do not miss any doses unless instructed by your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

• Blurred vision
• Sensitivity to light
• Eye irritation or discomfort
• Increased heart rate
• Dry mouth
• Skin flushing 

Allergic reactions: 

• Although rare, allergic reactions to Isopto Atropine Eye Drops can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

If you have a known allergy to atropine or any other ingredients in Isopto Atropine Eye Drops, inform your healthcare provider.

Atropine can be systemically absorbed after topical ocular administration. This may lead to systemic effects, especially in infants. If systemic symptoms occur, discontinue the medication and consult your healthcare provider.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products. Some medications may interact with Isopto Atropine Eye Drops; discuss potential interactions with your healthcare provider.
