Azopt eyedrops (Brinzolamide) is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle-type) or other eye diseases, such as ocular hypertension. Lowering high pressure inside the eye helps to prevent blindness.

This medication works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye. It belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors 

Do’s

  • Wash hands thoroughly before using Azopt.
  • Shake the bottle well before each use.
  • Tilt your head back, look upwards, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  • Apply one drop into the pouch as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 3 times a day.
  • Close your eye gently for 1-2 minutes and apply gentle pressure at the corner of your eye near the nose to prevent drainage.
  • Repeat for the other eye if instructed.
  • Replace the dropper cap after each use.
  • Use Azopt regularly at the same times each day.
  • Continue using Azopt even if you feel well.

Don'ts

  • Don't touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
  • Don't use Azopt while wearing contact lenses. Remove lenses before application and wait 15 minutes before reinserting.
  • Don't rinse the dropper.
  • Don't use Azopt with other eye medications within 10 minutes.
  • Don't drive or operate machinery until your vision clears after using Azopt.

Common Side Effects:

  • Bitter or unusual taste
  • Eye discomfort or irritation
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Stinging or burning sensation in the eyes
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Watery eyes
  • Headache

Serious Side Effects:

Consult your healthcare provider if you develop an eye infection, or injury, or have eye surgery. You may need to use a new bottle of Azopt Drops.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Azopt Drops, before having surgery.

Azopt Drops may cause temporary blurred or unstable vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision clears.

Azopt Drops should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if brinzolamide passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
