Trusopt Ampules Preservative Free is prescribed to lower intraocular pressure in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension which can lead to optic nerve damage and vision loss.

The medication contains the active ingredient dorzolamide hydrochloride and belongs to a class of drugs called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. It inhibits the activity of an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase which helps to reduce the production of fluid in the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure.

Trusopt Ampules Preservative Free also helps improve the outflow of fluid from the eye by enhancing the uveoscleral outflow pathway. This pathway is one of the mechanisms for fluid drainage from the eye. By enhancing fluid outflow, Trusopt Ampules Preservative Free further contributes to the reduction of intraocular pressure.

Trusopt Ampules Preservative Free is a sterile solution that does not contain a preservative. Each single-dose ampule should be used immediately after opening for administration to the affected eye(s). The medication should be stored at room temperature, protected from light, and kept out of the reach of children.

Do’s

  • Follow healthcare provider's instructions: Use Trusopt Ampules Preservative-Free exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically one drop in the affected eye(s) three times a day.
  • Wash hands thoroughly: Clean your hands with soap and water to prevent contamination before handling the ampule.
  • Open the container aseptically: Twist off the cap or break the seal according to the instructions on the single-dose container.
  • Position yourself comfortably: Tilt your head back or lie down comfortably with your head tilted back for easier application.
  • Create a pocket in your eye: Gently pull down your lower eyelid to form a small pouch to hold the medication.
  • Hold and squeeze the container: Hold the single-dose container close to your eye (without touching it) and squeeze gently to release one drop into the pouch.
  • Close your eye: Close your eye gently and avoid blinking or rubbing.
  • Wait before repeating (if applicable): If using drops in both eyes or applying additional eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between each drop to allow proper absorption.
  • Dispose of the container properly: Discard the single-dose container after use. Do not reuse or store it.
  • Wash hands again: Wash your hands once more to remove any medication residue.
  • Remove contact lenses (if applicable): If you wear contact lenses, take them out before using Trusopt Ampules Preservative-Free. Wait at least 15 minutes after applying the drops before reinserting your lenses.
