Rexulti (Brexpiprazole)

Do’s

• Before starting treatment with Rexulti, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• Take Rexulti by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other drugs you may be taking.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
• Your doctor may direct you to start Rexulti at a low dose and gradually increase your dose to reduce the risk of side effects. Follow their instructions carefully in this regard.
• Take Rexulti regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
• Continue to take the medication exactly as prescribed, even if you are feeling better and thinking more clearly.
• Inform your healthcare provider if you do not get better or if you get worse. It may take several weeks before you feel the full benefit of this medication.

Don’ts

• Do not increase your dose or take Rexulti more often than prescribed. 
• Do not stop taking Rexulti without consulting your healthcare provider.

Mild Side Effects:

• Indigestion
• Headaches
• Diarrhea
• Constipation 

Most of these mild side effects go away with time and do not require medical attention.

Serious Side Effects:

• Weight gain
• Restlessness (may continue long term while using Rexulti)

Inform your healthcare provider if you experience any serious side effects.

The use of Rexulti carries a risk of death in adults ages 65 years and older who have psychosis related to dementia, as well as the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adults ages 24 years and younger.

Patients should be educated about the risk of orthostatic hypotension and syncope, especially early in treatment or when reinitiating treatment or increasing dosage.

Counseling regarding appropriate care in avoiding overheating and dehydration is important for patients taking Rexulti.

Patients should be cautioned about performing activities requiring mental alertness, such as operating hazardous machinery or driving until they are reasonably certain that Rexulti therapy does not adversely affect their ability to engage in such activities.
