Zithromax Z-Pak (Azithromycin)

Do’s

• The dosage of Zithromax Z-Pak is typically based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. 
• Zithromax Z-Pak is usually taken orally, once daily, with or without food. If you experience stomach upset, you may take this medication with food. 
• Take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times, and to help remember, take it at the same time(s) every day.
• Continue taking Zithromax Z-Pak until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.
• Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium may decrease the absorption of azithromycin if taken at the same time. If you take an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium, wait at least 2 hours before or after taking Zithromax Z-Pak.
• Communicate with your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or gets worse.

• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Nausea
• Abdominal pain
• Stomach upset
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Dizziness
• Tiredness
• Headache
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Nervousness
• Sleep problems (insomnia)
• Skin rash or itching
• Ringing in the ears
• Hearing problems
• Decreased sense of taste or smell 

Serious Side Effects: 

• Severe or life-threatening allergic reactions
• Irregular heartbeats
• Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea 
• Liver damage

Individuals should not use Zithromax Z-Pak if they have ever had an allergic reaction, jaundice, or liver problems while taking the medication. Do not use this medicine if there has been a severe allergic reaction to similar drugs such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, or telithromycin.

A study reported an increase in cardiovascular deaths and the risk of death from any cause in persons treated with a 5-day course of azithromycin compared to other antibacterial drugs.

Be aware that the use of Zithromax Z-Pak, like nearly all antibacterial agents, may lead to Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, which can range in severity from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis.

Zithromax Z-Pak may interact with other medications. Consult a healthcare provider before taking any medication, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.
