Loprox Shampoo (Ciclopirox Olamine)

Do’s

• Use Loprox only on your hair and scalp.
• Wet your hair and scalp before applying.
• Use the recommended amount: 1 teaspoon for short hair, 2 teaspoons for long hair.
• Massage the shampoo into your scalp to create a lather.
• Leave the shampoo on your scalp and hair for 3 minutes.
• Rinse the shampoo off completely.
• Use Loprox as directed by your healthcare provider, typically twice a week with at least 3 days between uses.
• Use Loprox consistently to get the most benefit. You can mark a calendar to help you remember.
• Continue using Loprox for the full prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve.

Don'ts

• Don't get Loprox in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vaginal area. Rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
• Don't use more Loprox than recommended by your healthcare provider.
• Don't skip or stop using Loprox without talking to your healthcare provider first.
• Don't expect immediate results. It may take up to 4 weeks to see improvement.

Common side effects:

• Itching: Increased itching was reported in approximately 1% of patients treated with Loprox Shampoo in clinical studies
• Application site reactions: These can include burning, erythema (redness), and itching at the site of application. These reactions were also reported in approximately 1% of patients.
• Other adverse events occurred in individual patients only

Serious side effects:

• Allergic reaction: While very rare, a serious allergic reaction to Loprox Shampoo can occur. Seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Blistering, swelling, or oozing

Talk to your healthcare provider about any allergies, especially to ciclopirox or any inactive ingredients.

Disclose all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) to your healthcare provider before surgery.

Loprox Shampoo should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.
