Proventil HFA Inhaler (Albuterol Sulfate)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Proventil HFA Inhaler and with each refill, read the leaflet provided by your pharmacist. It contains important instructions and information about the proper use of the medication and cleaning of the mouthpiece.
• Before using the inhaler, shake it well to ensure proper mixing of the medication.
• If you are using a new canister for the first time, if you haven't used it for 2 weeks or more, or if the inhaler has been dropped, follow the instructions for test sprays in the air. 
• Inhale the medication by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual dosage is every 4 to 6 hours as needed. The specific dosage will depend on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. 
• If you are using Proventil HFA Inhaler to prevent asthma triggered by exercise, inhale as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 2 puffs 15 to 30 minutes before exercise.
• It is recommended to use a spacer device with this medication. A spacer can help improve the delivery of the medication to your lungs. Ask your healthcare provider for more information on how to use a spacer device.
• If your healthcare provider has prescribed two inhalations, wait at least 1 minute between them.
• If you are using other inhalers at the same time, wait at least 1 minute between the use of each medication.
• Always keep track of the number of inhalations you use. Discard the inhaler after you have used the labeled number of inhalations mentioned on the product package.
• Consult your healthcare provider if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen. 

Don’ts

• Do not increase the dose or use the inhaler more frequently than prescribed without your healthcare provider's approval, as it can increase the risk of serious side effects.

Common Side Effects:

• Nervousness
• Shaking (tremor)
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Nausea
• Cough
• Muscle pain or cramps

Rare, Serious Side Effects:

• Chest pain or tightness
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat
• Increased blood pressure
• Difficulty breathing or wheezing
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or hives

Proventil HFA Inhaler may interact with other drugs you are taking. Consult with a healthcare provider to ensure the safe use of medications.

Do not allow young children to use Proventil HFA Inhaler without the help of an adult. The technique for administering the inhaler to children is similar to that for adults, and children should use it under adult supervision.

Avoid exposing the inhaler to extreme heat, as it may cause the canister to burst. Do not store the inhaler in your car on hot days. When the labeled number of actuations has been used, the canister should be discarded. Do not puncture or incinerate the canister.

An overdose of albuterol can be fatal. If you suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical attention.
