Surmontil (Trimipramine)

Do’s

• Before starting Surmontil, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• Take Surmontil by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual frequency of dosing is 1 to 3 times daily. If your healthcare provider has prescribed it once daily, take it at bedtime to reduce the risk of drowsiness.
• The dosage of Surmontil is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your healthcare provider may start you on a low dose and gradually increase it. Follow their instructions carefully.
• Surmontil does not work immediately. It may take 2 to 4 weeks before you start experiencing the full benefits of the medication.
• Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.
• If your condition does not improve or worsens while taking Surmontil, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not suddenly stop taking Surmontil without consulting your healthcare provider. Some conditions may worsen when the drug is abruptly stopped. You may experience symptoms such as nausea, headache, and a feeling of being ill. Your healthcare provider may need to gradually decrease your dose.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Drowsiness
• Dry Mouth
• Constipation
• Blurred Vision
• Weight Gain
• Dizziness
• Urinary Retention

Seek immediate medical attention if you or someone you know experiences low mood, depression, restlessness, panic attacks, or any changes in mood or behavior.
