This tablet is available in Surmontil 12.5 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, and 100 mg tablets.
Surmontil Mechanism of Action
The action of this antidepressant on the central nervous system (CNS) is not fully known yet. However, it is known to have an anxiety-reducing sedative effect. It inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin in the nerve cells via the presynaptic neuronal membrane. This leads to an increase in neurotransmitters concentration in the synapse. It enhances the pressor effect of norepinephrine but hinders the pressor response of phenethylamine. It also has anticholinergic actions, which oppose the effects of acetylcholine.
