Invega is used to treat specific mental/mood disorders, including:

  • Schizophrenia: A severe condition affecting how someone thinks, feels, and behaves.
  • Schizoaffective disorder: A combination of symptoms from both schizophrenia and a mood disorder (like bipolar disorder).

Invega belongs to a class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. These differ from older antipsychotics in their mechanisms of action and potentially have fewer side effects.

Do’s

Don'ts

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to paliperidone, risperidone, or other ingredients.

Disclose your medical history, especially liver/kidney disease, seizures, low white blood cell count, Parkinson's, dementia, digestive issues, eye problems (cataracts, glaucoma), diabetes, high cholesterol/triglycerides, heart disease, sleep apnea, or family history of these conditions.

A heart rhythm issue that can cause serious consequences. Risk factors include certain medical conditions, medications, and electrolyte imbalances.

Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until these effects subside. Alcohol and marijuana can worsen these effects.

Drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous activity in hot weather, and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms like fever, confusion, headache, or dizziness.

Increased risk of falls in older adults due to drowsiness, dizziness, and lightheadedness.

Use only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider, especially if planning or becoming pregnant.

Paliperidone passes into breast milk and may harm infants. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
