Kenacomb Ointment (Neomycin/Gramicidin/Nystatin/Triamcinolone)

Do’s

• Kenacomb ointment is for external use only. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding its dosage and administration.
• Apply the ointment onto the affected areas, two to three times daily.
• Wash your hands before and after rubbing in the ointment. Be careful not to get any ointment in your eyes when applying it.
• If you forget one or more applications, simply apply the normal amount at the next application time and continue the course of treatment.
• If you accidentally apply too much ointment or swallow it, immediately call your healthcare provider or the Poisons Information Centre for advice. Even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning, seek medical advice.

Don’ts

• Do not interrupt or stop using the ointment until the prescribed course of treatment has been completed even if your symptoms improve within the first few days of treatment.
• Do not apply more than the usual amount to make up for the missed dose. 

Common Side Effects:

• Itching or irritation at the application site
• Burning or stinging sensation
• Dryness or peeling of the skin
• Allergic reactions, such as rash or hives

Less Common Side Effects:

• Skin thinning or discoloration
• Increased hair growth
• Acne or folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles)
• Infection or delayed wound healing

Seek medical attention if you experience any severe or persistent side effects while using Kenacomb ointment. Additionally, inform your healthcare provider if you have any concerns or notice any unusual symptoms.

Unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider, do not use dressings on the affected area. Dressings may increase the absorption of Kenacomb ointment through the skin, which can increase the possibility of side effects.

Topically applied corticosteroids and neomycin (one of the active ingredients in Kenacomb ointment) can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects. If you experience any systemic effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, hypotension, or headache, it may not be safe to drive or operate heavy machinery. Consult your healthcare provider if you experience any such side effects.

Kenacomb ointment contains neomycin, which is an antibiotic. Prolonged use of antibiotics may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If this occurs, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.

Check the expiry date on the label of the ointment tube. Do not use it if the protective seal has been broken. Store the ointment in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
