Aristocort R Ointment is a medication used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash.

It contains the active ingredient triamcinolone, which is a medium- to strong-potency corticosteroid. Triamcinolone works by reducing the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of skin conditions.

The potency of the medication depends on the strength and the form that is used.

Do’s

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying the ointment.
  • Clean and dry the affected area gently according to your healthcare provider's instructions. Pat the area dry, and avoid rubbing.
  • Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected area as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Gently rub the ointment in until it is absorbed somewhat, but don't rub excessively.

Don'ts

  • Don't use Aristocort R on broken, infected, or irritated skin unless directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Don't use more ointment than prescribed by your healthcare provider. This will not improve effectiveness and can increase side effects.
  • Don't cover the treated area with a bandage unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider. Bandages can trap moisture and worsen some skin conditions.
  • Don't get Aristocort R in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water.
