Aristocort R Ointment (Triamcinolone Acetonide)

Do’s

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying the ointment.
• Clean and dry the affected area gently according to your healthcare provider's instructions. Pat the area dry, and avoid rubbing.
• Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected area as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Gently rub the ointment in until it is absorbed somewhat, but don't rub excessively.

Don'ts

• Don't use Aristocort R on broken, infected, or irritated skin unless directed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't use more ointment than prescribed by your healthcare provider. This will not improve effectiveness and can increase side effects.
• Don't cover the treated area with a bandage unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider. Bandages can trap moisture and worsen some skin conditions.
• Don't get Aristocort R in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water.

The common side effects of Aristocort R ointment (triamcinolone topical) may include:

• Skin irritation
• Itching
• Redness
• Dryness
• Burning or stinging sensation at the application site

Serious side effects of Aristocort R ointment are rare but may include:

• Allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical help immediately.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Aristocort r ointment, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to triamcinolone acetonide (the active ingredient in Aristocort R Ointment) or any other corticosteroids, or to any of the inactive ingredients in the ointment.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Aristocort R Ointment, especially:

• Fungal skin infections (Aristocort R may worsen these infections)
• Poor blood circulation (may increase side effects)
• Diabetes (may worsen blood sugar control)
• Glaucoma (eye pressure problems) or cataracts (steroid use can increase risk)
• Liver or kidney disease
• Stomach ulcers or intestinal problems
• Tuberculosis (active or inactive)
• Weakened immune system (from HIV/AIDS, medication, or other medical conditions)

Using Aristocort R Ointment for a long time or over large areas of skin can:

• Thin the skin
• Increase the risk of infections
• Slow down wound healing
• Cause stretch marks
• Interfere with growth and development in children

Aristocort R Ointment should only be used during pregnancy when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if triamcinolone acetonide passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while using Aristocort R Ointment.

Do not use Aristocort R Ointment in or near your eyes.

Do not use Aristocort R Ointment on open wounds or infected skin areas unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Avoid covering the treated area with bandages or dressings unless directed by your healthcare provider. This can increase the risk of side effects.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements before using Aristocort R Ointment.
