Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate)

Do's

• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions exactly.
• This includes how much to apply, how often to apply it, and for how long.
• Shake the lotion well before each use.
• Apply a thin layer of lotion to the affected area only. Rub it gently.
• Wash your hands before and after applying Elocon lotion.

Don'ts

• Do not use Elocon lotion on your face, mouth, or genitals unless your healthcare provider tells you to.
• Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing unless your healthcare provider tells you to.
• Do not use Elocon lotion for longer than your healthcare provider tells you to.
• Do not use Elocon lotion to treat any other skin condition that your healthcare provider has not diagnosed.
• Do not stop using Elocon lotion suddenly without talking to your healthcare provider first.

Common Side Effects:

• Red or pus-filled bumps on the skin
• Acne
• Mild itching, tingling, or burning

Serious Side Effects:

• Rare absorption into the bloodstream, leading to side effects of too much corticosteroid, especially in children or with prolonged use over large areas of the skin. Symptoms may include unusual/extreme tiredness, weight loss, headache, swelling ankles/feet, increased thirst/urination, and vision problems.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Elocon lotion, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Discuss any allergies you have to mometasone or other medications before using it.

Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing conditions, especially poor blood circulation, diabetes, or immune system problems.

Let your healthcare provider know if you have a skin infection as it requires specific treatment.

Inform your healthcare provider if your skin condition doesn't improve or worsens with treatment.

Long-term or widespread use might hinder your body's ability to respond to physical stress.

Before any surgery, emergency treatment, or serious illness, tell your healthcare provider about current or recent use of mometasone.

Long-term use may slightly slow down a child's growth. Regular healthcare provider visits are recommended to monitor their height.

Mometasone should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.
