Temovate Ointment (Clobetasol Propionate)

Do’s

• Use this medication on the skin only. 
• Wash and dry your hands before using Temovate Ointment.
• Clean and dry the affected area.
• Apply a thin film of medication to the affected area and gently rub it in as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual frequency is 2 times daily.
• After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands.
• Use Temovate Ointment only for the condition prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• If your condition does not improve or worsens after 2 weeks of using Temovate Ointment, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not use this ointment on the face, groin, or underarms unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• When applying Temovate Ointment near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes as it may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting the medication in the nose or mouth. If it comes into contact with these areas, rinse with plenty of water.
• Do not use this ointment for longer than 2 weeks in a row or use more than 50 grams per week unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.

• Burning or stinging sensation at the application site
• Itching or irritation of the treated skin
• Dry or cracking skin

These side effects are generally mild and may not occur in everyone. However, if you experience any severe or persistent side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Temovate Ointment is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components. If you have had an allergic reaction to Temovate or any other drugs, foods, or substances, inform your healthcare provider.

Topically applied Temovate Ointment can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects. This means that the medication can be absorbed into the bloodstream and potentially affect the whole body. Follow the prescribed dosage and avoid excessive use.

Temovate Ointment should not be used with occlusive dressings. Occlusive dressings can increase the absorption of the medication and may lead to systemic effects.

In studies where geriatric patients (65 years of age or older) have been treated with Temovate Ointment, safety did not differ from that in younger patients, and no dosage adjustment is recommended.

Pediatric patients may be more susceptible to systemic toxicity from equivalent doses of Temovate Ointment due to their larger skin surface to body mass ratios. Use caution and follow the healthcare provider's instructions when using Temovate Ointment in children.
