FML (Fluorometholone)

Do's

• Follow proper cleaning guidelines and seek their advice before resuming contact lens use. 
• Wash your hands thoroughly before applying FML. 
• Shake the bottle well before use. 
• Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket for the medication. 
• Hold the dropper directly above your eye and gently squeeze one drop into the pocket. 
• Close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes and apply light pressure to the inner corner with one finger to prevent drainage. 
• Repeat the process for the other eye if required or if your dose is for more than one drop and replace the cap securely. 
• Continue using FML for the full prescribed time, even if you feel better as stopping abruptly can worsen your condition. 
• Consult your healthcare provider before stopping treatment. 
• Contact your healthcare provider for guidance and inform them if your condition doesn't improve after 2 days or worsens. 

Don'ts

• Don't wear contact lenses while using FML unless explicitly allowed by your healthcare provider. 
• Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes after using FML. 
• Don't rinse the dropper after use. 
• Don't use contaminated FML (discolored drops), as it can lead to serious eye infections. 

The typical dosage of FML is 2-4 times daily, but your healthcare provider may personalize this. 

Common side effects may include:

• Stinging or burning sensation in the eyes for a short duration
• Temporary blurred vision

Serious side effects that may occur, although less common, include:

• Change in eyesight
• Eye pain
• Severe eye irritation
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Fml,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies you have, including FML or its ingredients.

Discuss your eye health history with your healthcare provider, particularly regarding eye infections, recent eye surgery, cataracts, glaucoma, severe nearsightedness, and diabetes.

Be cautious after applying FML as it may temporarily blur your vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

Before any surgery or dental procedure, tell your healthcare provider and dentist about all medications you use, including FML.

Consult your healthcare provider if you develop a new eye infection, or injury, or require eye surgery, to determine if you should continue using the current bottle of FML or start a new one.

FML should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider about the safety of using FML while breastfeeding, as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.
