Nexavar (Sorafenib)

Do’s

• Take Nexavar exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually twice daily on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal).
• Take Nexavar consistently at the same times each day for the best results.
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully regarding dosage. Don't adjust it yourself.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition improves to see if a lower dose is possible.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or persists.

Don'ts

• Don't take more Nexavar than prescribed or take it for longer than prescribed.
• Don't skip doses or stop taking Nexavar without talking to your healthcare provider first.
• Don't crush, chew, or break Nexavar tablets. Swallow them whole with a glass of water.

Common side effects:

• Bleeding
• Feeling tired
• Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain
• High blood pressure
• Rash
• Weight loss, thinning hair
• Mouth and throat irritation
• Upset stomach
• Runny nose
• Headache

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Easy bruising/bleeding
• Signs of liver disease (such as nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin)
• Serious skin problems (such as rash, blisters, redness, swelling, pain), especially on the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet
• Signs of bleeding inside the body (pink or brown urine, abnormal vaginal bleeding, bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds)
• High blood pressure, which should be checked regularly and treated during treatment with Nexavar
• Increased risk of bleeding, which can be serious and lead to death

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Nexavar,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have any allergies before taking Nexavar.

Tell your healthcare provider about any pre-existing conditions, especially bleeding problems, recent surgery, heart problems, high blood pressure, blood vessel problems, or liver disease.

Nexavar may cause irregular heartbeat. Tell your healthcare provider about any heart conditions or medications that can affect heart rhythm, and also about low potassium or magnesium levels in your blood.

Before surgery, inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Nexavar. Nexavar may slow wound healing, so your healthcare provider might recommend stopping it temporarily before surgery.

Nexavar can harm an unborn baby. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle Nexavar or breathe the dust from the tablets. Reliable birth control is necessary during treatment and for a period after the last dose for both men and women. Nexavar is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
