Efudex Cream is indicated for the following purposes:

  1. Treatment of Pre-cancerous and Cancerous Skin Growths: Efudex is used on the skin to treat pre-cancerous and cancerous skin growths. It belongs to a class of medications known as anti-metabolites and works by blocking the growth of abnormal cells that cause the skin condition.
  2. Basal Cell Carcinoma: It is a standard treatment for basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer worldwide. Efudex interferes with the formation of DNA and RNA molecules, essential for cell division and growth, resulting in the death of quickly growing cancerous cells. It achieves success rates similar to other topical creams used for treating skin cancer.
  3. Actinic or Solar Keratosis: Efudex is used to treat scaly overgrowths of skin (actinic or solar keratosis) and is recommended for the topical treatment of multiple actinic or solar keratoses. It is also useful in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinomas when conventional methods are impractical, such as with multiple lesions or difficult treatment sites.
  4. Other Conditions: It may also be used for other conditions such as senile and solar keratoses, keratosis palmaris, and other skin conditions as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
