Bonefos is used to treat hypercalcemia (high blood calcium) in people with cancer and to treat cancer that has spread to bones (bone metastases) due to different types of tumors.

Bonefos, also known as clodronate, belongs to a family of medications known as bisphosphonates.

Clodronate works by slowing down the breakdown of bone and lowering the amount of calcium lost from the bones. This mechanism helps in reducing the impact of bone metastases and hypercalcemia in cancer patients.

Do’s

  • Take Bonefos exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. This includes the dosage (amount), frequency (how often you take it), and duration (for how long).
  • Read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with Bonefos. This will provide important information about side effects, drug interactions, and storage instructions.
  • Take Bonefos on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water. This is usually at least two hours before a meal or any drinks except water.
  • Sit upright or stand for at least 30 minutes after taking Bonefos. Avoid lying down or reclining to prevent heartburn.
  • Maintain good dental hygiene. Bonefos can affect your jawbone, so see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.

  • Do not take more Bonefos than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Do not take Bonefos if you are allergic to Pamidronate or any of the ingredients.
