Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate) is indicated for the treatment of breast cancer. It is specifically indicated for the following purposes:

  1. Treatment of Axillary Node-Negative Breast Cancer: Nolvadex is indicated for the treatment of axillary node-negative breast cancer in women following total mastectomy or segmental mastectomy, axillary dissection, and breast irradiation.

Do’s

  • Take Nolvadex by mouth with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. The typical frequency is usually once or twice daily for a specified duration, which will be determined by your healthcare provider.
  • Daily dosages greater than 20 milligrams are typically divided in half and taken twice a day, in the morning and evening, or as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • If you are using the liquid form of Nolvadex, measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon.
  • The dosage of Nolvadex is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. The duration of treatment to prevent cancer from returning may vary, typically between 5 to 10 years, depending on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Use Nolvadex regularly to get the most benefit from it. Take it at the same time(s) each day to help you remember.
  • If you have breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, you may experience increased bone/cancer pain and/or disease flare-up as you start taking Nolvadex. Inform your healthcare provider immediately about any such symptoms.
  • Inform your healthcare provider right away if your condition worsens, such as the development of new breast lumps.

Don’ts

  • Do not use a household spoon in measuring the liquid form of Nolvadex as it may not provide the correct dose.
  • Since this drug can be absorbed through the skin and lungs, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets.
