Lanoxin Solution (Digoxin)

Do’s

• Take the Lanoxin solution exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. This includes dosage, frequency, and whether to take it with or without food.
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully on how to measure the dose using the provided dropper. Do not use a household spoon.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
• Use Lanoxin solution regularly to get the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.
• Inform your healthcare provider of all medications and supplements you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal products. Lanoxin can interact with certain medications.
• Schedule regular checkups with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress and blood levels of Lanoxin.

Don'ts

• Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed. Lanoxin can be toxic if taken in high doses.
• Do not abruptly stop taking Lanoxin without talking to your healthcare provider. Stopping suddenly can worsen your heart condition.
• Do not use the Lanoxin solution if it is past its expiration date.
• Do not share the Lanoxin solution with others.

Common side effects:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Fatigue
• Changes in vision (such as blurred or yellow-tinted vision)
• Rash or skin reactions

Serious side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Serious allergic reactions to Lanoxin may occur, although they are rare. Seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Palpitations
• Irregular heartbeat, or fainting
• Changes in vision, such as blurred or yellow-tinted vision
• Gastrointestinal disturbances: Lanoxin can cause gastrointestinal side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking a Lanoxin solution, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Don't take Lanoxin (digoxin) if you're allergic to digoxin, digitalis, Lanoxin itself, or any other ingredients in the specific product. Ask your healthcare provider for a complete list of ingredients.

If you have a specific abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation.

Take digoxin only as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Don't share it with others.

Keep it out of children's reach.

Digoxin may affect alertness and coordination. Avoid driving or activities requiring those until you know its effects.

It may affect blood pressure and heart rate. Talk to your healthcare provider about monitoring symptoms.

Use the provided oral syringe for accurate dosage (if prescribed oral solution).

Tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions and medications (prescription, OTC, vitamins, supplements, herbal products).

Discuss specifically if you have any of these conditions:

• Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
• Sinus node disease/sick sinus syndrome
• Atrioventricular (AV) block
• Kidney problems
• Myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation)
• Heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction
• Thyroid problems
• Chronic diarrhea

Also tell your healthcare provider about any electrolyte imbalances, especially:

• Low potassium (hypokalemia)
• Low magnesium (hypomagnesemia)
• Low calcium (hypocalcemia)
• High calcium (hypercalcemia)

Inform your healthcare provider if you're undergoing electrical cardioversion (a medical procedure).

Let your healthcare provider know about all other medications and supplements you take (see Interactions section for details).

Discuss with your healthcare provider the risks and benefits of taking digoxin if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
