Catapres TTS-3 Patch (Clonidine Hcl)

Do’s

• Apply the patch to a clean, dry, hairless area on your upper outer arm or upper chest.
• Press the patch firmly for 10 seconds.
• Wash your hands after handling the patch.
• Wear the patch for 1 week as directed by your healthcare provider and replace it with a new one.
• Apply the new patch to a different area each time.
• Fold the old patch in half with the sticky side together and throw it away in the trash.
• Use a new patch if the old one falls off or causes mild redness/itching/irritation.
• Use the medication regularly, ideally on the same day each week.
• Continue using the medication even if you feel well.
• Talk to your healthcare provider before stopping the medication to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Don'ts

• Don't apply the patch to oily, broken, or irritated skin.
• Don't apply the patch to areas where it might rub off easily.
• Don't flush the patch down the toilet.
• Don't stop using the medication without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't apply the new patch to the same area as the old one.

Common Side Effects:

• Skin irritation at the patch application site
• Itching or redness at the patch application site
• Mild drowsiness
• Dry mouth

Serious Side Effects:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Skin burns, particularly at the patch site during a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
• High blood pressure rebound if the patch is not replaced as scheduled
• Serious side effects have been reported with Clonidine, and it is important to consult a healthcare provider for more information.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to clonidine or any ingredients in the patch.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using CATAPRES-TTS 3 Patch, especially:

• Kidney disease
• Heart rhythm problems (slow/irregular heartbeat, certain heart blocks)

Clonidine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until effects subside. Limit alcohol and marijuana use.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Clonidine, before having surgery.

Certain medical procedures (MRI, cardioversion) can be dangerous while wearing the patch. Inform healthcare personnel about the patch before undergoing these procedures. Your healthcare provider will advise on patch removal and reapplication.

You may experience dry eyes while using Clonidine. Consult your healthcare provider about using wetting eye drops if you wear contact lenses.

Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects like dizziness or drowsiness, which can increase the risk of falling.

CATAPRES-TTS 3 Patch should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Clonidine passes into breast milk and may harm infants. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
