Cardene (Nicardipine) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and can be used with or without other medications. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Nicardipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily. It is also used to prevent certain types of chest pain (angina) and may increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of angina attacks.

Nicardipine should be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective and should not be used to treat attacks of chest pain when they occur. Other medications, such as sublingual nitroglycerin, should be used to relieve attacks of chest pain as directed by your doctor

Do’s

  • Take it as prescribed. Follow your doctor's instructions on dosage and frequency (usually 3 times a day).
  • Take it consistently. Consistency is key for Cardene to work effectively. Aim to take it at the same time each day.
  • Take it with or without food. Food doesn't affect Cardene's absorption.
  • Keep taking it even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so continue taking Cardene as prescribed even if you feel good.
  • Tell your doctor if your condition worsens. If your blood pressure remains high, chest pain worsens, or any other symptoms arise, inform your doctor.

Don't

  • Don't adjust your dosage: Don't change your dosage without consulting your doctor. Your doctor may adjust it gradually based on your response to treatment.
  • Don't skip doses. Taking Cardene inconsistently can reduce its effectiveness.
  • Don't stop taking it abruptly. Stopping Cardene suddenly can be dangerous. Always talk to your doctor before stopping it.
