Exforge (Amlodipine/Valsartan)

Do’s

• The dosage of Exforge is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• Your healthcare provider may occasionally change your dose. Follow their instructions closely.
• Take Exforge by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider usually once daily.
• Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
• It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this product. Keep taking it even if you feel well.
• If you do not feel well while taking Exforge, inform your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

Common Side Effects:

• Swelling in hands or feet
• Dizziness or spinning sensation
• Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat

Serious Side Effects:

• Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
• Rapid weight gain
• Kidney problems, such as swelling, urinating less, feeling tired, or shortness of breath
• High blood potassium, which may cause nausea, weakness, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, or loss of movement

Valsartan, a component of Exforge, can cause serious harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or suspect pregnancy, inform your healthcare provider immediately.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to amlodipine, or valsartan, or if you have any other allergies. This is important as the product may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Elderly patients may experience decreased clearance of amlodipine and higher exposure to valsartan. No dosage adjustment is necessary for valsartan in the elderly, but caution should be exercised.

Caution should be exercised when administering Exforge to patients with renal impairment. Monitoring and potential dosage adjustments may be necessary.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements, as some of these medicines may interact with Exforge, leading to serious side effects.
