Altace HCT is a combination medication that contains two active ingredients: ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and may also be prescribed for congestive heart failure.

Ramipril belongs to a class of medications called ACE inhibitors, while hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic or "water pill" that helps control blood pressure by getting rid of excess salt and water in the body.

Ramipril works by relaxing blood vessels and making the heart pump more efficiently. Hydrochlorothiazide works by increasing the excretion of salt and water through the kidneys. This helps to reduce the volume of fluid in the blood vessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure.
