Nystop Topical Powder (Nystatin)

Do’s

• Clean and thoroughly dry the area to be treated before applying the medication.
• Apply Nystop Topical Powder to the affected skin as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 2 or 3 times a day. The dosage and length of treatment depend on the type of infection being treated.
• Apply enough powder to lightly coat the affected area and some of the surrounding skin.
• After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using it to treat your hands.
• Use Nystop Topical Powder regularly at the same times each day to get the most benefit from it.
• If your condition lasts after 2 weeks of treatment or gets worse at any time, consult your healthcare provider.
• Continue to use the medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.

Don’ts

• Do not apply the medication more often than prescribed.
• Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the area unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants if Nystop Topical Powder is used in the diaper area of an infant
• Do not apply the medication to the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina.

Common Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat 
• Burning, itching, crusting, or peeling of the treated skin

Not everyone will experience these side effects, and the severity and frequency of side effects may vary from person to person. If you have any concerns about the side effects of Nystop Topical Powder, consult with your healthcare provider.

It is unlikely that other drugs taken orally or injected will have an effect on topically applied Nystop. However, informing your healthcare provider about all medications you are using, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products is recommended.

While serious allergic reactions to Nystop Topical Powder are unlikely, seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Consult with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Nystop Topical Powder.

Nystop Topical Powder may be prescribed for children as young as 17 years for selected conditions, but precautions do apply. Discuss the use of this medication in children with your healthcare provider.
