Axid (Nizatidine)

Do’s

• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions precisely. This includes dosage (once or twice daily), timing (especially if taking it once a day before bedtime), and duration of treatment.
• Use the provided measuring device for the liquid form to ensure accurate dosing. Don't rely on household spoons.
• Take Axid consistently at the same time(s) each day for optimal benefit.
• Combine Axid with antacids if your healthcare provider approves for additional relief from acid reflux symptoms.
• Continue taking Axid for the full prescribed duration, even if you feel better, to ensure complete treatment.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens while taking Axid.

Don'ts

• Don't adjust your Axid dosage without consulting your healthcare provider. More medication won't improve your condition faster and might increase side effects.
• Don't stop taking Axid abruptly. Discuss a tapering plan with your healthcare provider if needed.
• Don't use expired Axid. Always check the medication's expiry date before use.

Common side effects of Axid may include:

• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Nausea
• Stomach pain
• Dizziness
• Increased sweating

Serious side effects of Axid are rare but may include:

• Allergic reactions: Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
• Worsening heartburn
• Chest pain
• Pale skin, feeling light-headed, or shortness of breath
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Axid,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Before taking Axid (nizatidine), inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to nizatidine, other H2 blockers, or any other medications.

Tell your healthcare provider about pre-existing conditions. Discuss any past medical history, especially:

• Immune system problems
• Kidney problems
• Liver problems
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other lung diseases
• Other stomach problems (such as tumors)

Seek immediate medical attention for certain symptoms. Be aware that some heartburn symptoms can mimic a more serious condition. Get immediate medical help if you experience:

• Heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating, or dizziness
• Chest, jaw, arm, or shoulder pain (especially with shortness of breath or unusual sweating)
• Unexplained weight loss

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Axid) before undergoing surgery.

Use only when necessary. Axid should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using it if you are pregnant.

Axid passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding to determine if it's safe.
