Amitiza, with the generic name lubiprostone, is indicated for the following conditions:

  • Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) in Adults: Amitiza is used to treat chronic constipation in adults.
  • Opioid-Induced Constipation (OIC) in Adult Patients With Chronic Non-Cancer Pain: It is indicated for the treatment of constipation caused by opioid (narcotic) pain medicine in adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain, including those with chronic pain related to prior cancer or its treatment who do not require frequent opioid dosage escalation.
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C) in Women: Amitiza is indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in women at least 18 years old.

Amitiza increases the secretion of fluid in the intestines to help make it easier to pass stools (bowel movements).

Do's
