Emadine (Emedastine) is used to relieve redness, itching, and swelling of the eyes from allergies, specifically allergic conjunctivitis.

Emedastine is classified as an antihistamine, and works by blocking certain natural substances (histamines) that cause allergic symptoms.

This medication is available in the form of eye drops and is used to alleviate the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis in both adults and children aged three years and older.

Do's

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the drops.
  • Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket.
  • Hold the dropper tip close to your eye, but avoid touching your eye or eyelid with it.
  • Squeeze the bottle gently to release one drop into your eye.
  • Close your eye for 1-2 minutes and gently press on the inner corner of your eye (near your nose) to prevent the medication from draining out.
  • Repeat for your other eye if directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Follow your healthcare provider's instructions exactly regarding dosage and frequency.
  • Store the bottle upright at room temperature.

Don'ts

  • Don't touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, as this can contaminate the medication.
  • Don't use the drops if the solution is discolored or cloudy.
  • Don't wear contact lenses while using Emadine if your eyes are red. Wait at least 10 minutes after using the drops before inserting lenses.
  • Don't use more than the prescribed amount of Emadine.
  • Don't share your eye drops with anyone else.
  • Don't use Emadine for longer than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
