Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine)

Do’s

• Use Isopto Carpine Drops exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 3-4 times daily.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before using the drops.
• Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
• Apply the drops as directed:
  • Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  • Place one drop into the pouch without touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
  • Close your eye gently and apply pressure to the inner corner for 1-2 minutes to prevent drainage.
  • Repeat for the other eye if instructed.
• Wipe away excess solution around your eye with a tissue.
• Wash your hands again after use.
• Use other eye medications with at least a 5-minute gap between applications. Apply eye drops before ointments.
• Wait for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.

Don'ts

• Don't adjust your dosage without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
• Don't use Isopto Carpine Drops while wearing contact lenses.
• Don't rinse the dropper. Replace the cap after each use.
• Don't skip doses or stop using the medication without talking to your healthcare provider first. Especially for glaucoma or high eye pressure, consistent use is crucial.

Serious Side Effects:

• Severe stinging, burning, swelling, or redness of the eye
• Serious eye or vision problems, such as retinal detachment or retinal tear
• Allergic reactions, including itching, redness, or peeling skin
• Vision changes, such as seeing floaters or flashes of light
• Difficulty breathing
• Rash
• Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
• Severe dizziness
• Eye pain
• Seeing halos around lights

Talk to your healthcare provider about any allergies, especially to pilocarpine, benzalkonium chloride (preservative), or any other inactive ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider of your medical history, particularly regarding other eye problems like iritis or detached retina.

Isopto Carpine Drops may cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving (especially at night), operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

Disclose all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) to your healthcare provider before surgery.

Isopto Carpine Drops should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.

Maintain a list of all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) and discuss them with your healthcare provider. This helps avoid potential drug interactions.
