Remeron Soltab (Mirtazapine)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Remeron Soltab, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
• Take Remeron Soltab by mouth with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual recommendation is to take it once daily at bedtime. 
• The dosage will depend on your medical condition and your response to treatment. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the dosage.
• With clean and dry hands, open the blister pack and place the tablet on your tongue. The tablet will quickly dissolve and can be swallowed with your saliva. There is no need to take this medication with water or liquid.
• Use Remeron Soltab regularly to get the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember to take it.
• It may take 1 to 4 weeks to notice an improvement in your symptoms. If your condition does not improve or gets worse while taking Remeron Soltab, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not break, chew, or crush the tablets; doing so may affect their effectiveness.
• Do not remove any tablets from the blister pack until you are ready to take your dose.
• Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.
• Do not stop taking Remeron Soltab without consulting your healthcare provider. Some conditions may worsen if the medication is suddenly stopped. If you and your healthcare provider decide to discontinue the medication, the dose may need to be gradually decreased over time.

• Increased serum cholesterol
• Weight gain
• Fatigue
• Insomnia
• Increased appetite
• Xerostomia (dry mouth)
• Decreased appetite
• Dizziness
• Increased serum triglycerides
• Tremor
• Dyspepsia (indigestion)
• Hot flashes
• Palpitations
• Vertigo
• Abnormal dreams
• Bitter taste
• Decreased libido
• Diaphoresis (excessive sweating)

When administering Remeron Soltab to elderly patients, caution is advised. Dose selection should be conservative and reflect the greater frequency of decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function, as well as concomitant disease or other drug therapy.

Remeron Soltab is not approved for use in pediatric patients. It should not be used in individuals under 18 years old without proper medical guidance.

At least 14 days must elapse between discontinuation of an MAOI antidepressant and initiation of Remeron Soltab. Additionally, at least 14 days must elapse after stopping Remeron Soltab before starting an MAOI antidepressant. This is to avoid potential drug interactions and the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Do not take Remeron Soltab if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any of its ingredients. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Remeron Soltab can potentially cause serotonin syndrome, a serious condition characterized by an excess of serotonin in the body. Symptoms may include agitation, hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, fever, muscle stiffness, tremor, and loss of coordination. Seek medical help if you experience these symptoms.

Prior to initiating treatment with Remeron Soltab or any other antidepressant, screen patients for a personal or family history of bipolar disorder, mania, or hypomania.

Antidepressants, including Remeron Soltab, may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, especially in patients younger than 24 years old. Close monitoring and communication with the healthcare provider are important, especially at the beginning of treatment.
