Zomig Nasal Spray is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older.

Do’s

  • Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before using Zomig Nasal Spray and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your healthcare provider.
  • Use Zomig Nasal Spray at the first sign of a migraine as directed by your healthcare provider, typically with 1 spray into one nostril.
  • Before using the medication, gently blow your nose.
  • To administer the spray, remove the protective cap and block one nostril by pressing firmly on either side of your nose. Place the tip of the spray device into the other nostril and breathe in gently as you press the plunger. Keep your head tilted slightly back, remove the tip from your nose, and breathe gently through your mouth for 5 to 10 seconds. It's normal to feel a wet sensation inside your nose and notice a slight taste after using the spray.
  • If your symptoms are only partly relieved, or if your headache returns, you may use another dose at least two hours after the first dose.
  • The dosage of Zomig Nasal Spray is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
  • If you have a higher risk for heart problems, your healthcare provider may perform a heart exam before you start taking Zomig Nasal Spray. They may also direct you to take your first dose of this medication in the office/clinic to monitor for serious side effects, such as chest pain. Discuss this with your healthcare provider for details.
  • If you are using drugs for migraine attacks on 10 or more days each month, the drugs may actually make your headaches worse (medication overuse headache). Inform your healthcare provider if you need to use this medication more often, if the medication is not working as well, or if your headaches get worse.

Don’ts

  • Avoid spraying into your eyes.
  • If there is no improvement in your symptoms, do not take more doses of this medication before consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Do not use more than 10 milligrams in a 24-hour period.
  • Do not use this medication more often or for longer than directed.

Common Side Effects:

  • Unusual taste
  • Paresthesia
  • Hyperesthesia
  • Dizziness

While these are the most commonly reported side effects, there may be other potential side effects as well. If you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects after using Zomig Nasal Spray, consult your healthcare provider for further guidance.

Zomig Nasal Spray is not recommended in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment due to increased zolmitriptan blood levels in these patients and elevation of blood pressure in some cases. The recommended dosage of Zomig Nasal Spray in patients with mild hepatic impairment is the same as for patients with normal hepatic function.

Zomig Nasal Spray may interact with other medications. For example, co-administration of cimetidine, a general P450 inhibitor, and Zomig oral tablets can affect the half-life and AUC of zolmitriptan. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

Cases of life-threatening serotonin syndrome have been reported during combined use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and triptans like Zomig Nasal Spray. Be cautious when using Zomig Nasal Spray in combination with these medications.

There are limited data on the developmental risk associated with the use of Zomig Nasal Spray in pregnant women. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

For more detailed information on the warnings and precautions of Zomig Nasal Spray, consult your healthcare provider.
