Duavee is indicated for the following purposes:

    • Treatment of Moderate to Severe Vasomotor Symptoms Associated with Menopause
    • Prevention of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

It is a combination medicine that contains bazedoxifene and conjugated estrogens, which together bind to and activate estrogen receptors.

Do’s

  • Before starting treatment with Duavee, read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.
  • Take Duavee by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
  • You may take it with food or right after a meal to prevent stomach upset. Swallow the tablets whole.
  • The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Take Duavee regularly to derive the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens while taking Duavee.

Don’ts

  • Do not crush or chew the tablets as this can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
  • Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often or for a longer time than directed.

Common Side Effects:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Dyspepsia
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Throat pain
  • Dizziness
  • Neck pain
  • Potential weight changes during menopause

Serious Side Effects:

  • Unexplained weight loss

Inform your healthcare provider if you experience serious side effects while taking Duavee.

Additionally, if you have concerns about hair loss, discuss this with your healthcare provider.

These are not all the possible side effects of Duavee. If you experience any side effects that bother you or do not go away, consult your healthcare provider for more information and guidance.

If you are planning to have surgery or will be confined to a chair or bed for an extended period, inform your healthcare provider. These conditions can increase the risk of blood clots, especially when taking an estrogen product. Special precautions or temporary discontinuation of Duavee may be necessary in these situations.

In some cases, substantial increases in blood pressure have been associated with estrogens. Additionally, treatment with estrogens may be linked to elevations of plasma triglycerides, potentially leading to pancreatitis. If you have pre-existing hypertriglyceridemia, discuss this with your healthcare provider. Consider discontinuing Duavee if pancreatitis occurs.

Using estrogen may increase the risk of developing cancer of the uterus. Report any unusual vaginal bleeding while taking Duavee, as this may be a warning sign of uterine cancer. Your healthcare provider should investigate any unusual vaginal bleeding to determine the cause.

Postmenopausal women should be informed of the possible serious adverse reactions of estrogen therapy, including cardiovascular disorders, malignant neoplasms, and probable dementia. Additionally, be aware of the less serious but common adverse reactions of Duavee therapy.

Consult a healthcare provider before taking any medication, including Duavee, and discuss any specific concerns or questions regarding its use.
