Climara Patch (Estradiol)

Do’s

• Apply to clean, dry skin on the lower stomach or buttocks (not breasts).
• Avoid oily, broken, irritated skin and areas with friction (waistline).
• Press firmly for 10 seconds to ensure adhesion.
• Wear the patch for 1 week, then replace it with a new one.
• Apply a new patch to a different area each time.
• Wait at least 1 week before applying to the same area.
• Dispose of used patch by folding sticky sides together and throwing it away (not flushing).
• Reapply a fallen patch if possible, otherwise use a new one for the remaining 7 days.
• Wear only one patch at a time.
• Change the patch on the same day each week for consistency.
• See your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens.

Don'ts

• Don't apply to breasts, oily/irritated skin, or areas with friction.
• Don't forget to remove the old patch before applying a new one.
• Don't reuse an old patch.
• Don't wear two patches at the same time.
• Don't flush the used patch down the toilet.
• Don't neglect to tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens.

Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Breast pain and tenderness
• Nausea and vomiting
• Skin irritation at the application site
• Fluid retention (swelling)
• Mood changes

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reaction: If you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek emergency medical help immediately.
• Chest pain or pressure
• Pain spreading to the jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating.
• Increased blood pressure
• Severe headache
• Blurred vision  
• Pounding in the neck or ears, anxiety, nosebleed.
• Blood clot
• Stroke
• Breast cancer
• Uterine cancer
• Gallbladder disease
• changes in vision or contact lens intolerance.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Climara Patch,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Disclose any allergies to estradiol or inactive ingredients before starting Climara Patch.

Review your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Vaginal bleeding of unknown origin
• Certain cancers (breast, uterus/ovaries)
• Blood clots, stroke, or heart disease
• Liver or kidney problems
• Family history of cancer, blood clots, or a swelling disorder (angioedema)
• Blood clotting disorders
• High blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol/triglyceride problems
• Obesity, lupus, thyroid issues, or mineral imbalances
• Uterus problems (fibroids, endometriosis)
• Other health conditions like gallbladder disease, asthma, seizures, migraines, or mental health issues

Smoking significantly increases health risks, especially for women over 35 using estrogen.

Discuss medication use with your healthcare provider before surgery or extended bed rest, as these situations increase blood clot risk.

Estrogen may cause skin darkening. Limit sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing.

Contact lens wearers may experience problems. Consult your eye healthcare provider if needed.

Inform technicians about the Climara Patch before undergoing an MRI.

Climara Patch can affect children's growth. Monitor growth closely if they are exposed.

Do not use Climara Patch if pregnant. Estrogen may decrease breast milk production. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
