Migranal Nasal Spray, also known as dihydroergotamine mesylate, is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura in adults. It helps relieve symptoms of migraine headaches, such as sensitivity to light and sound.

Migranal Nasal Spray is not intended to prevent migraine headaches, but rather to manage the symptoms once a migraine attack has started.

Do’s

  • Before using Migranal Nasal Spray, familiarize yourself with the instructions provided in the Patient Information Leaflet or Medication Guide. Additionally, consult your healthcare provider if you have any questions or if any information is unclear.
  • Read and understand all the preparation and usage instructions in the product package.
  • Prime the pump before using each nasal spray vial by spraying it four times into the air, away from your face.
  • Each nasal spray vial contains enough medication for a single migraine attack.
  • The dosage may vary based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Consult your healthcare provider to determine how often you can use Migranal Nasal Spray for your migraine headaches.
  • At the first sign of a migraine, spray one spray into each nostril. Wait for 15 minutes after the first sprays and then use another spray in each nostril, or follow the specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
  • The maximum number of sprays for a single attack is 4 sprays (two in each nostril).
  • After using Migranal Nasal Spray, lie down and relax in a quiet, darkened room. Relief should be felt within 30 minutes of using the medication.
  • The medication is most effective when used at the first signs of a headache. Delaying its use when the headache worsens may reduce its efficacy.
  • Migranal Nasal Spray is not intended for long-term daily use.
  • If you are using other medications such as "triptan" or other ergot medications, consult your healthcare provider for advice on timing your doses and any potential interactions.
  • If you experience migraines on 10 or more days each month and are using medication frequently, it may worsen your headaches. Follow the prescribed dosage and inform your healthcare provider if you need to use Migranal Nasal Spray more often or if your headaches worsen.

Don’ts

  • Do not use more than 4 sprays for a single attack.
  • Do not inject the medication.
  • Avoid tilting your head back, sniffing through your nose, or blowing your nose while spraying or immediately after.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose or use Migranal Nasal Spray more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed.
  • Nasal congestion or irritation
  • Altered sense of taste
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue

These side effects are usually temporary and do not typically require discontinuation of Migranal Nasal Spray use. However, be aware of any serious side effects that may occur and report them to your healthcare provider immediately.

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects, and other side effects may occur. Read the patient information leaflet provided with the medication and consult with your healthcare provider for more comprehensive information.
