Dermotic Oil Ear Drops (Fluocinolone Acetonide)

Do's

• Wash your hands: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching the dropper or your ear.
• Tilt your head: Lie on your side or tilt the affected ear upwards to allow the drops to reach the ear canal.
• Use the dropper properly: Hold the dropper directly over the ear and dispense the prescribed number of drops as directed by your doctor.
• Position the earlobe (adults vs. children): For adults, gently pull the earlobe up and back. For children, hold the earlobe down and back.
• Keep head tilted: Remain with your head tilted for about 1 minute to allow the drops to penetrate the ear canal.
• Use cotton plug (if directed): If your doctor instructs you to use a soft cotton plug, insert it gently after applying the drops and remove it after 1 minute.
• Repeat for other ears (if needed): If both ears require treatment, repeat the process for the other ear.
• Maintain hygiene: Don't rinse the dropper and replace the cap securely after each use.
• Use regularly: Use the medication as directed by your doctor, typically twice a day, and at consistent times for optimal results.
• Follow the prescribed duration: Don't use the drops for longer than prescribed by your doctor.
• Inform your doctor: Tell your doctor if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after 2 weeks of using the drops.

Don'ts

• Touch the dropper tip: Avoid touching the dropper tip with your fingers or letting it come into contact with your ear or any other surface to prevent contamination.
• A bandage or cover the area: Don't bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
• Get it in your eyes, nose, or mouth: Be careful not to get the medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If it does come into contact with these areas, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
• Use for other conditions: Don't use Dermotic Drops for any condition other than what it was prescribed for.
• Exceed prescribed dosage: Don't use more Dermotic Drops than prescribed by your doctor.

Common Side Effects:

• Stinging or burning sensation in the ear canal after application (usually mild and temporary)
• Ear discomfort (may occur if using the drops for an extended period)
• Increased redness or scaling of existing skin sores in the ear (usually mild and temporary)
• Skin rash around the ear (where the drops were applied)

Serious Side Effects (Less Common):

• Signs of a skin infection in the ear (increased warmth, redness, swelling, or pus drainage)
• Changes in hearing (particularly if the eardrum is ruptured)
• Numbness in the fingers (rare)

Disclose any allergies to fluocinolone, other corticosteroids, or any ingredients in the ear drops (especially peanut oil, as it may be present).

Do not use Dermotic oil if you have an ear infection or sore in the ear canal. It can worsen the infection. Tell your doctor if redness, swelling, or irritation persists while using the drops.

Dermotic oil should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

The safety of Dermotic oil for breastfeeding is unknown. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while using these ear drops.
