Chantix Continuing Pack (Varenicline)

Do’s

• Before you start taking Chantix and each time you get a refill, make sure to read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• There are different ways to use Chantix. One way is to set a date to quit smoking before beginning treatment. Another way is to start taking this medication before choosing a date to quit smoking. If you are not able to pick a quit date, your healthcare provider may direct you to start taking this medication and gradually reduce smoking with the goal of quitting by the end of your treatment.
• If Chantix comes in a dosing package, carefully follow the directions on the dosing package. If it comes in a bottle, carefully follow your healthcare provider's directions on the prescription label. If you have any questions about how to take this medication, talk to your healthcare provider.
• Take Chantix by mouth after eating food and with a full glass of water 
• The dosage of Chantix is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. 
• Take Chantix regularly at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit from it. This will also help you remember to take it.
• If you continue to smoke after a few weeks of treatment, inform your healthcare provider. If you are not able to quit smoking after 12 weeks of treatment, talk to your healthcare provider.
• If you are successful and cigarette-free after 12 weeks of treatment, your healthcare provider may recommend another 12 weeks of treatment with Chantix.

Don’ts

• Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than prescribed. Taking more than 1 milligram twice a day is not recommended.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Insomnia
• Abnormal dreams
• Changes in taste
• Constipation
• Gas
• Vomiting
• Trouble sleeping or insomnia
• Dry mouth

Chantix may lower your ability to tolerate alcohol. Be aware of this potential effect and discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Chantix has been linked to a rare risk of seizures. If you experience any unusual symptoms or seizures while taking Chantix, seek medical attention immediately.

If you are allergic to Chantix or any of its components, inform your healthcare provider. Allergic reactions can be serious, and medical attention should be sought if any signs of an allergic reaction occur.

Chantix may interact with other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.
